History    


Ogba legend and oral history indicate that the ancestors arrived in the present Ogbaland in 3015 BC, archaeological evidence show that many towns and villages of Ogbaland were inhabited between 3015 BC to 235 AD.

Ogbas called their land "AliOgba" which means Ogbaland and their Egbema brothers call them "Okugba" which means "burnt ones". The Ogbas are originally from Benin in the present Edo state of Nigeria.

The (Binis) acertain that they came all the way from Khem (Egypt) to found a more secure shelter in this part of the world after a short stay in the Sudan, arabic term for "Land of the Blacks". They settled at Ile Ife which Benin people call Uhe.

The empire of the first period or dynasty was founded about 900 AD, the rulers were commonly known as "Ogiso" before the arrival of the Oduduwa and his party at Ife in Yorubaland about 12 AD.

There are no less than twelve Eze (kings) in Ogba kingdom. At the apex of the monarch is the Oba (Eze Ogba) of Ogbaland and the Chairman, Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers His Eminence, Sir Dr. Chukumela Nnam Obi II (OON, JP), . (See Royal Fathers) .

His Royal Highness Chief (Sir) Francis J. Ellah is a graduate of the Univesity College, Ibadan, London University and the New York University Graduate school of public administration respectively, in nearly 30 years of Public Service, has been a Distict Officer, a diplomate in Europe and America and a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria

Honoured with a Knight of St Gregory the Great and awarded an LLD (honoris causa) by the University of Port Harcourt and the Rivers State University of Science and Technology respectively, HRH. Chief (Sir) Francis J. Ellah is the 13th Eze Nwadei Ogbuehi of Ogbaland.
